So exciting to see recent races taking place and some big ones coming up soon on the calendar. All the diligent work put in from Advantage Multisport athletes last year is showing positive results the spring. Mary Doherty placed 7th overall and 2nd age group at the Mt Rainier Duathlon this morning. Brinn Hollander placed fourth overall at the Birch Bay 30k, and would have been 2nd if it hadn’t been for wrong directions. Jessica Rogers was 2nd overall at the Birch…

I had the pleasure of meeting Jake beginning of December when he approached me for coaching his first Ironman race. He is the owner of a successful gym in Bellingham, and I felt he was an immediate kindred spirit in the fitness industry as he is all about inspiring those to better health and life. Jake is a big strong guy, not your average Ironman build, but I had seen him in running races around Whatcom county a few times in the…
Read MoreIn the past week I have seen 4 significant research articles come up pointing to the importance of exercise and healthy living to improving immunity and minimizing the risk factors associated with COVID-19, and most likely most acute or chronic diseases. The first was a study from NYU that “found obesity as the single biggest factor in New York COVID critical cases.” The second a paper by two of my favorite exercise science and and health researchers, Philip Maffetone and Paul Larsen,…
Read MoreIn my last blog post about a month ago, I raved about all the exciting races that were on the horizon, near and distant in 2020. Oh my, how things have changed this past month. We have gone from the brink of the kick off to our seasons to huge personal, familial, and occupational challenges that have turned many lives upside down. Our kids are home, many of us are working from home or in high stress situations masked and gloved up…
Read MoreWhile may Advantage Multisport athletes have been participating in low key local races to spice up the winter training, the real season “kick off” races are fast approaching. We will see the season start with a few athletes racing IM 70.3 Oceanside, followed quickly by 2 more racing at IM Texas and IM St George. We then move into the big NW 70.3 races at 70.3 Victoria and 70.3 Coeur d’Alene, and even a 6 day Canadian Mountain Bike Stage Race in…
Read MoreThis past weekend was full of many end of the season A races, and some “carry that race fitness a little longer to do some fun stuff” events. Lake Stevens was the final A race for 3 Advantage Multisport athletes. Leighton Overson placed third overall and won his division of the PNW Regional Sprint Distance Champs. He had the best bike split of the day which has been the focus the past month. Kevin Williamson was 5th in his division, concluding a…
Read MoreThree racers at the Bonney Lake Triathlon today, 3 age group titles. Awesome work crew! Ché Acord, Leighton Overson, and Jessica Rogers all had fantastic performances and dominating age group wins. So exciting to see the end of the tri season peaking coming to fruition!
Read MoreThe summer has been full of amazing performances by Advantage Multisport athletes around the northwest. Unfortunately I have been too busy coaching to keep up with my website, but hope to post a summary of the awesome results in the next week or two. That said, I wanted to post this standout video of Chris Lease, an example of the amazing people, I have the honor and pleasure of working with. https://vimeo.com/281996683
Read MoreWhat an amazing experience Josh and I had working with world record holder and swim coach Karlyn Pipes today. My stroke was literally transformed in an hour with some “outside the box” approaches she uses to improve balance, power, ease. The difference after the lesson was dramatic, more ease with my breathing, better balance and stability, less stress on my shoulders and a significant improvement in my “catch” at the front of the stroke. The endless pool was such an amazing tool…
Read MoreCongratulations to Chris Lease and Joe Morelli for persevering through the rough swim and windy bike yesterday to both finish Ironman Arizona. They both executed great races in the tough conditions to finish strong with a smile. Doing a late season Ironman makes for a very long season, requiring a lot of discipline to press on when most athletes in the Northwest have long finished their seasons. Very proud of you guys!
